We measured the other day - Dave has a "wing span" of 7 feet

The black dot on the right is the screw that holes this board down. Once the concrete has been poured and the power screed has gone over this wood, it needs to be removed from the concrete. The blue paint next to it shows out guys where the screw is once it has been covered up by the concrete.

IAC 7-23-05

The page today is dedicated mostly to the prep work that happens on the morning of a concrete pour. All of these pictures were taken before 10:30 this morning even though the work went till 4:30pm

At a quater after 4:00am this morning the Power Screed was lifted up to the second floor

The guys then had to carry the screed into place

In the upper right hand portion of this photo you can see the moon. It is just after 4:00am and this is one of the first times many of us have seen the moon in months due to all the sunlight that keeps is hidden.

Glenn uses the forklift to move the block out of the way of the pump truck

To get the boom to the correct spot, Dave had to remove some of the safety bars (no one was using the scaffold today)

Jeremy and Bo carry the boards down for the Power Screed to ride on

Ivar is getting in some last minute welding (4:53am - concrete is scheduled to come at 5:00am)

This piece of wood in the middle (called a Screed Board) is what the Power Screed rides on to keep it at the right level

Tieing down the ladder - safety first

By 5:30am the first corner of the building is poured

Bumpy

Hand screeding - if Dave did not have the Power Screed then the whole floor would have to be done like this

We poured 166 yards today!

During a break in the morning when everyone was waiting on the concrete trucks Dave looked down and found a butterfly had landed in the mud. After this photo was taken, he scooped his fingers up under it and off it went.

Glenn had one of the most back breaking jobs of the day - he had to lean over and put in A LOT of screw and washers to help hold the mesh down
